Democratic Committee Endorses Candidates for 2003 Primary Election
The Westmoreland County
Democratic Committee today announced its endorsements for candidates for
countywide office in the 2003 municipal primary election. Committee
delegates voted to endorse candidates at the Committee's Annual Convention
March 22.
"We have a formidable slate
of candidates for the primary election that features a dedicated group of
incumbents as well as some new candidates," said Committee Chairperson
Rosemary Trump. "We are excited to have such a talented group represent the
Democratic Party in this year's primary.
"I ask all Democrats to
support these candidates and engage in their campaigns," Trump added. "These
candidates offer the best for Westmoreland County government."
At last weekend's convention,
240 committee delegates cast votes for endorsements.
Leading the list of endorsed
candidates is first-time candidate Chris Feliciani, a Greensburg attorney
who is running for judge of the Court of Common Pleas. Jeannette resident
Carmen Pedicone received the Committee's endorsement for County Controller.
Pedicone is district administrator of the state Department of Revenue office
in Greensburg and is a member of Jeannette City Council.
The Committee also endorsed
incumbent Democratic County Commissioners Tom Balya and Tom Ceraso. Balya
currently serves as chairman of the Board of Commissioners and is seeking
his third term in office. Ceraso is running for a second term.
In addition, the Committee
endorsed the following incumbents for county row offices:
-
Recorder of Deeds - Tom
Murphy
-
Register of Wills - Earl
S. Keim II
-
Sheriff - Chris Scherer
-
Treasurer - Kathalyn
O'Brien
At the recommendation of the
state Democratic Committee, the County Committee did not vote to endorse
candidates for statewide judicial offices. However, the committee did vote
in favor of granting a "Favorite Son Recommendation" to Westmoreland County
Judge John D. Driscoll in his bid for Pennsylvania Superior Court.
The primary election will be
held Tuesday, May 20.
