Westmoreland County government and my perspective about the many challenges we face. In the
politics section, I discuss current
issues from the local level up to the national political scene. The

I welcome your opinion on the important
issues facing Westmoreland County, as well as our state, nation, and world. To facilitate

RANDOM
THOUGHTS AS THE ELECTION DRAWS NEAR
It is amazing how the Republicans act like they are
"making history" by nominating a woman as their
vice-presidential nominee. They are roughly a quarter
century behind the Democratic Party who had Geraldine
Ferraro as part of their ticket in 1984. Sarah Palin?
C'mon. If John McCain's slogan of "America First" was
sincere, how does he select her over a variety of more
qualified candidates? At this time two years ago, she
was mayor of a town with a population smaller than
Latrobe. Click on the icon in

VOTING
IN THE ELECTRONIC AGE With a very important
presidential election on the horizon, those of us
responsible for conducting the election have confidence
in the integrity of our voting machines and fully expect
to conduct an efficient, accurate election. It may be
puzzling that I even have to make such a statement in
this country, but after the 2000 election and all the
shenanigans in Florida and then Congress' rush to apply
a band-aid to the election process, these kinds of
issues are of concern. Click
