Tom Balya Issues Statement on Kim Ward's
Antics
July 25, 2008
In response to Westmoreland
County Commissioner Kim Ward's recent public accusations,
Commissioner Chairman Tom Balya today released the following
statement:
"Since she took office I have done my best to
forgive the dishonest and mean-spirited campaign she waged to
take office, but her recent antics have only served to
underscore her well-deserved reputation as a political
opportunist with no real intention of serving the best interests
of the county's taxpayers.
"Kim Ward needs to quit trying to fool people
into believing that everything is about politics. My position
regarding the Community College is about trying to prevent
political influence -- from anyone. The recent appointment to
the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission is about finding a
qualified and seasoned professional to best serve the
transportation interests of our county.
"Her claims that she has been 'cut out' of
county business is nonsense, and she knows it. She has access to
every bit of information that I have. She is either
intentionally misleading the public or willfully ignorant. But
either way, she is wrong.
"Perhaps if she approached this job with some
semblance of seriousness and professionalism we would all be
better served. Just yesterday, in the midst of a multi-million
dollar negotiation to provide maintenance for the county's
emergency radio system, she shrieked excitedly and leapt from
her chair just to catch a glimpse of the former Republican Party
Chairman through the window. And she wants to represent our
county among regional leaders? Our county deserves better.
"I have always sought to end the political
rhetoric the day the campaign ended last year. It's a shame and
a disservice to the people who elected us that Kim Ward will not
allow it." Read more
