15, 2003 -- Commissioner Balya Donates
$3,500 to County Charities and Vocational Schools - Continuing a holiday
tradition he began in 1996, Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Balya today
announced $250 donations to 14 nonprofit charitable organizations and
vocational technical schools in Westmoreland County.

2, 2003 -- Westmoreland County Names
New Director of Children’s Bureau - The Westmoreland County Board of
Commissioners today named Marilyn L. McSparrin as Director of the County
Children's Bureau. McSparrin, a 31-year veteran of the Bureau, replaces
Gerald Sopko, who retired from county service in September.
September 10, 2003 -- Westmoreland
County Joins Historical Society to Improve Old Hanna's Town as Tourism,
Historical Asset - The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners today
joined members of the Westmoreland County Historical Society to sign an
agreement for the long-term planning and development of Old Hanna's Town --
Westmoreland County's original seat of government.

of Topics at Commissioner Balya's County Mayors' Forum - "Smart Growth"
topped the list of subjects discussed at the most recent session of the
Westmoreland County Mayors' Forum, facilitated by Westmoreland County
Commissioner Tom Balya.

County Commissioners Tom Balya and Tom Ceraso today expressed their support
for the the new Westmoreland County Commission for Women.

Improvements at Westmoreland Manor, Introduces New Eagle Tree Apartments
- Westmoreland County Commissioners today joined staff and residents of
Westmoreland Manor, the county's nursing home, to dedicate a new lobby and
introduce the new Eagle Tree Apartments.

28, 2003 -- Westmoreland County's New
Mobile Emergency Command Post Now In Service
- The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners today joined U.S.
Congressman John P. Murtha (D-12th District) and local emergency service
providers to dedicate the county's new Mobile Command and Communications
Center.

17, 2003 -- Westmoreland County Seeking
Warden for Prison - The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners today
announced it is seeking candidates for warden of the Westmoreland County
Prison. The county is ending its contract May 31 with Cornell Companies,
Inc. of Houston, Texas, to manage the prison.

23, 2003 -- Westmoreland County Kicks
Off New Tourism Grant Program; Applications Now Available - Westmoreland County tourism-related businesses and organizations may now
apply for the county's new Tourism Grant Program. Westmoreland County
officials and the Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau kicked off the new
program with a ceremony today at the County Courthouse.
