Westmoreland County Adopts 2005 Budget
-- The Westmoreland County
Board of Commissioners today unanimously passed the county's 2005 operating
and capital budget. The $298.6 million budget raises the millage rate to
20.99 mills -- a four-mill increase that marks the first adjustment in the
property tax rate in four years.

Commissioner Balya Donates $3,750 to County Charities and Vocational Schools
-- Continuing a holiday
tradition he began in 1996, Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Balya today
announced $250 donations to 15 nonprofit charitable organizations and
vocational technical schools in Westmoreland County.

Children's Bureau --
The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners today appointed a
seven-member task force to conduct a comprehensive study of the county
Children's Bureau to improve services for families.

Additional Telecommunications Changes to Save
County Taxpayers $1 Million
-- Westmoreland County taxpayers will save more than a million dollars over
the next five years thanks to telecommunications changes implemented by the
County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioner Balya to Serve as Alternate
Delegate to the Democratic National Convention
-- Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Balya will serve as an alternate at
the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Balya will join more than 4,353
delegates and alternates from every state and territory to nominate John
Kerry as the party's candidate for President of the United States.

New Voice Mail System and Long Distance Contract
to Save Westmoreland County More Than $250,000 -- The Westmoreland
County Board of Commissioners today announced that new long distance service
and voice mail systems for county telephones will save taxpayers hundreds of
thousands of dollars of the next several years.

to County
-- Making good on his promise to not accept a pay raise this year,
Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Balya today returned $1,438.38 to the
county treasury.

to Civil Court, Marriage License, Estate, and Tax Records -- The
Westmoreland County Records Improvement Committee is pleased to announce the
availability of on-line access to public records from the prothonotary,

May 10-14
- Qualifying Families Can Enroll in CHIP, adultBasic Insurance Programs
-- During the week, partners will host Children's Health Insurance Program

locations throughout the county to help uninsured families.

$20 Million Secured to Complete Key Stretch of
Route 22 Reconstruction Project - Westmoreland County Commissioners Tom
Balya and Tom Ceraso today announced that $20 million in "spike" funding has
been secured to complete a critical four-mile stretch of the Route 22
reconstruction project through Export.
