Commissioner Balya Donates $3,500 to County
Charities and Vocational Schools
-- Continuing a holiday tradition he began in 1996, Westmoreland County
Commissioner Tom Balya today announced $250 donations to 14 nonprofit
charitable organizations and vocational technical schools in Westmoreland
County.

New Westmoreland Development Council Combines
Economic Efforts
--
The time and place could not be better for the long-anticipated creation of
Westmoreland County's one-stop-shop for economic development. The groups
announced on November 3 the creation of an umbrella organization called the
Westmoreland Development Council to coordinate economic development
activities in a new co-location.

Westmoreland County Names New Director of
Veteran's Affairs
-- The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners today named John A.
Panichella as Director of Veteran's Affairs. "John Panichella is a decorated
Marine veteran who has a keen knowledge of what matters most to veterans,"
said Commission Chairman Tom Balya.

Westmoreland County Recoups Nearly $100,000 from
Prison Health Care Provider
-- Westmoreland County has recouped $99,240 from NaphCare, Inc., the health
care provider for inmates at the County Prison. "The prison is one area of
county government that is funded exclusively by county tax dollars. And,
with the rising costs of the criminal justice system, including housing and
caring for inmates, we have to make sure we are making the most of every
dollar to protect our taxpayers," said Tom Balya, Chairman of the Board of
County Commissioners.
