December 27, 2007 -- Westmoreland County Names New Director of Children's Bureau -- The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners -- Tom Balya, Tom Ceraso and Phil Light -- today named Shara B. Saveikis, M.S.W., as director of the county's Children's Bureau.

December 18, 2007 -- Commissioner Balya Donates $3,500 to County Charities and Vocational Schools -- Continuing a holiday tradition he began in 1996, Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Balya today announced $250 donations to 14 nonprofit charitable organizations and vocational technical schools in Westmoreland County.

December 6, 2007 -- Westmoreland Land Trust to Protect County's Open Space: Commissioners Create New Non-Profit Organization, Appoint Board Members -- The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners, Tom Balya, Tom Ceraso and Phil Light, today passed a resolution creating the new Westmoreland Land Trust.

October 2, 2007 -- CASA of Westmoreland, Inc. Holds Graduation Ceremony; First Class of CASA Volunteers Sworn-In by Family Court Judges -- The county's new Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program graduated its first class of 20 CASA volunteers today at the Westmoreland County Courthouse.

September 19, 2007 -- County Launches Westmoreland Manufacturers' Bulletin Board -- The Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corporation (WCIDC), in conjunction with its public and private sector partners, today launched the Westmoreland Manufacturers' Bulletin Board -- an on-line forum to promote business-to-business manufacturing opportunities in the county and region.

September 17, 2007 -- Mill Creek Improvements Benefit Communities Downstream -- One of Westmoreland County's natural treasures, Mill Creek, recently got even better after some much-needed improvements to stabilize its streambank and slow the amount of sediment entering this exceptional waterway.

August 21, 2007 -- Westmoreland County Recognized by Local Government Academy -- Westmoreland County was honored as the Outstanding Advocate for Good Government at the Local Government Academy 2007 Recognition Luncheon on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania.

August 7, 2007 -- Emergency Preparedness Focus of Commissioner Balya's Mayors' Forum -- The latest in a series of forums for Westmoreland County's mayors, hosted by County Commissioner Tom Balya, educated local leaders on emergency preparedness and disaster recovery.

July 26, 2007 -- Respironics To Build New Manufacturing Facility for Production of Sleep Therapy Devices; Expands Footprint in Westmoreland -- Respironics, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS Symbol: RESP) today announced plans to build a $32 million manufacturing facility focused on the production of its sleep therapy devices. Situated on 56 acres at Westmoreland Business & Research Park, in Upper Burrell Township, the new 165,000-square-foot facility will be located approximately seven miles from the Company's Corporate Headquarters and its current Sleep and Home Respiratory manufacturing facility in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.

July 25, 2007 -- Westmoreland County Invited to Participate in Pittsburgh 250 Celebration -- The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners -- Tom Balya, Tom Ceraso and Phil Light -- is inviting neighborhood, community and civic organizations in the county to participate in a program to help celebrate the region's 250th anniversary. The program will offer $1 million in grant funding.

July 3, 2007 -- Unity Township Water Line Extension Project Underway --Through the combined efforts of the Westmoreland County Commissioners - Tom Balya, Tom Ceraso and Phil Light - the Unity Township Supervisors, Westmoreland County’s Office of Community Development and the residents of the Baggaley community, the Unity Township Waterline Extension Project is now underway.

April 19, 2007 -- County Seeks Volunteers to Help Transport Veterans -- Westmoreland County is seeking volunteers to assist local veterans. Drivers are needed to support the Volunteer Transportation Network program that provides free transportation for veterans in need of medical treatment.

March 8, 2007 -- County CASA Program to Enhance Child Welfare; Protect At-Risk Children -- Executive Director Hired; Volunteers Needed -- Volunteers are needed to help with a new Westmoreland County program designed to help children at risk of abuse and neglect. The county's new Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program is a partnership of county government, the court system, and private citizens to help promote the welfare of vulnerable children.

January 4, 2007 -- County Refutes Controller's Computer Audit - Review Finds Audit Flawed; Equipment Safe -- Following a review of a recent County Controller audit of Westmoreland County's computer equipment control system, several glaring errors and omissions were revealed, calling into question the integrity of the Controller's findings and exposing serious flaws in the audit methodology used.
