Unity Township Water Line Extension Project Underway

Posted 7-3-07

Through the combined efforts of the Westmoreland County Commissioners - Tom Balya, Tom Ceraso and Phil Light - the Unity Township Supervisors, Westmoreland County's Office of Community Development and the residents of the Baggaley community, the Unity Township Waterline Extension Project is now underway. The project kicks off with a July 3 ceremony at Baggaley Elementary School.

The project, consisting of the installation of approximately 13,350 feet of eight-inch water line and 11 fire hydrants will provide clean drinking water and substantial fire protection for 97 households (202 people) in the Baggaley area.

"Quality water is without a doubt an important part of the quality of life in Westmoreland County," said County Commissioner Chairman Tom Balya. "We have given water infrastructure a very high priority, and we are pleased to be able to help the residents of Baggaley with this important project."

The $500,000 project is being funded by:

  • Westmoreland County's Community Development Block Grant Program - $400,000

  • PA Department of Community and Economic Development - $20,000

  • PA Department of Environmental Protection - $80,000

The project is expected to be completed by fall.
