Prescription Drug Discount Cards Now Available
County Residents Can Pick Them Up at Area Libraries and Senior Centers
Posted 3-3-08
All Westmoreland County residents can now
participate in the county's new prescription drug discount card
program. The Board of Commissioners today announced a number of
distribution points throughout the county for residents to pick
up their cards.
The discount cards are available at the
Westmoreland County Courthouse, local libraries from the
Westmoreland County Federated Library System, as well as at the
county's senior centers.
Westmoreland County has partnered with the
National Association of Counties (NACo) to offer the discount
cards that offer average savings of 20 percent off the retail
price of commonly prescribed drugs.
There is no enrollment form, no claim forms, no
membership fees and no restrictions or limits on how often it
may be used. Cardholders and their family members may use the
card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.
Only card per family is needed.
All medications are covered except for
over-the-counter (OTC) products. As long as the medication
requires a prescription written by a doctor, it is covered under
the NACo card.
The cards may be used by all county residents,
regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage, and are
accepted at all major pharmacy chains, including Giant Eagle,
Wal-Mart and Rite-Aid, as well as most local pharmacies.
Additional information about the program,
including a complete list of participating pharmacies, is
available on-line through the Westmoreland County homepage at
www.co.westmoreland.pa.us/rxcard or by calling the County
Helpline toll-free at 800.222.8848.
Editor's Note: Cards may be obtained at the
following locations during their regular business hours:
