Dominion Awards $10,000 Grant to Westmoreland
County’s Twin Lakes Park Expansion Project
Posted 7-21-09
The Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation
Citizens Advisory Board received a $10,000 grant from Dominion in
support of Phase II of the Twin Lakes Park Expansion. The grant was
made possible through the Dominion Foundation, the company's
philanthropic arm.
Development of the area will provide county
residents with many family-oriented recreational activities and
facilities. The park expansion will include a winter sports area for
sledding and tubing, universally accessible playground, a dog park,
and a life trail for senior adults.
This is the second part of a two-phase expansion --
Phase I, which included the dedication of Peach Plaza Skate and
Action Park, was completed last year. Phase II, which is projected
to last two years, will make it convenient for more residents to
enjoy the park facilities.
"We are fortunate, and very grateful, to have a
corporate partner like Dominion that supports family-oriented
quality of life improvements at our county parks," said, Tom Balya,
Chairman of the Westmoreland County Commissioners. "This grant from
the Dominion Foundation will help bring to life Phase II of our Twin
Lakes Parks expansion, with picnic areas and playgrounds, as well as
a winter sport area and dog park."
"A key part of Dominion’s mission is support for
organizations that are dedicated to improving the overall health and
well being of the communities we serve," said James Mesloh,
executive director, Dominion Foundation. "The outstanding efforts of
the Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory Board
deserve broad community support and encouragement. Dominion is proud
to be a part of that."
