Second Term Candidacy Announced
Posted 01-29-1999
At a news conference held at 10 a.m Wednesday, January, 27, at the Rialto Cafe in
Greensburg, County Commissioner Tom Balya announced his candidacy for another term as
Westmoreland County Commissioner. Surrounded by friends and family, Commissioner Balya
reflected on his first three years in office, and highlighted some of his accomplishments
in this term.
"I have attempted to be a driving
force in examining how county government operates. Inefficient operations such as the
Waste-to Energy Plant have been shut down, and attempts to create more quasi-government
entities like a General Authority have been halted," said Balya. "I still
believe there is money to be saved by implementing a more common sense approach to the
county's acquisition of goods and services."
He credited his involvement as
Vice-Chairman of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission in insuring Westmoreland County
receives its fair share of transportation funding, while also providing the opportunity
for the county to become a regional leader in transportation, and economic development
projects.
Balya concluded the event by pledging to
wage a tireless campaign, and asked the citizens of Westmoreland County for their trust
that he would serve to the best of his ability.
"If re-elected, I will not govern from
the left or the right, but continue to govern from the center, and look for common sense
solutions to the problems facing county government." |
