Labor - Management Pledge Signed

Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Balya has joined more than 100
business, labor and government leaders in signing the "Westmoreland County
Pledge." The pledge is a commitment to work cooperatively to resolve labor
disputes and promote economic development.
"The Pledge signing is a
further demonstration of the Westmoreland County Area Labor Management
Committee efforts to promote positive dialogue between labor and management
in our county," said Balya. "Positive labor-management relations are
important for retaining jobs and increasing investment, the signing of this
Pledge is another example of the Committee?s commitment toward building
strong communities and protecting family sustaining jobs."
Commissioner Balya
acknowledged the efforts of his WCALMC Co-Chairs Paul Smiy, chairman
emeritus of the Elliott Company; Charlie Datz, president of the Westmoreland
County Labor Council; and all the signators of the Pledge.
"We've been working on this
Pledge since 1996 and I appreciate the efforts of Mr. Smiy and Mr. Datz to
bring management and labor participants together, and each signator in
recognizing that signing the Pledge is a commitment to positive,
constructive dialogue."
Speakers at the event were
Labor & Industry Secretary Johnny J. Butler; Jay Pifer, President of
Allegheny Power; and Rick Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the
Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. Chris Masciantonio, Labor and industry Deputy
Secretary for Labor-Management Relations, also participated in the pledge
signing ceremony, which was held at the Westmoreland County Community
College.
The Pledge signing ceremony
was sponsored by the WCALMC, which consists of county, business and labor
representatives. The Committee's mission is to promote economic development
through labor-management cooperation. |
