December 18, 2009 -- Commissioner Balya Donates $3,500 to County Charities and Vocational Schools -- Continuing a holiday tradition he began in 1996, Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Balya today announced $250 donations to 14 nonprofit charitable organizations and vocational technical schools in Westmoreland County.

November 16, 2009 -- Commissioner Balya’s Mayors’ Forum Focuses on Importance of 2010 Census -- The latest in a series of forums for Westmoreland County's mayors, hosted by County Commissioner Chairman Tom Balya, focused on the importance of the upcoming 2010 U.S. Census and enlisted the help of county mayors in ensuring a complete count.

November 5, 2009 -- Westmoreland County Begins $1.8 Million Homelessness Prevention and Housing Initiative -- The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners, Tom Balya, Tom Ceraso and Chuck Anderson, today announced a new program to help county residents who are homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless because of current economic conditions.

September 16, 2009 -- Westmoreland Complete Count Committee Beginning Work for 2010 U.S. Census -- In order to ensure that the county is accurately counted in the 2010 U.S. Census, Westmoreland County's Complete Count Committee will hold its inaugural meeting on September 23.

August 3, 2009 -- Commissioners Outline Steps to Improve Safety and Security of County Prison -- The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners -- Tom Balya, Tom Ceraso, and Charles Anderson -- today outlined steps to improve security and safety at the Westmoreland County Prison. "We dealt with the recent misbehavior by several corrections officers quickly and appropriately," said Commissioner Tom Ceraso, who chairs the County Prison Board.

July 21, 2009 -- Dominion Awards $10,000 Grant to Westmoreland County’s Twin Lakes Park Expansion Project -- The Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory Board received a $10,000 grant from Dominion in support of Phase II of the Twin Lakes Park Expansion. The grant was made possible through the Dominion Foundation, the company's philanthropic arm.

July 13, 2009 -- Commissioner Balya Challenges State Legislators to Cut Legislative Budget -- Tom Balya, Chairman of the Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners, is calling upon members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly during the current state budget impasse to identify what budget sacrifices they will make directly to save tax money.
