Article About Prison Gets It Wrong...Again
I have come to expect biased, slanted reporting
from the Tribune-Review, but the recent article concerning the
installation of a new security system at the county prison goes
beyond bias; it is flat wrong.
For starters, the wiring for the new system has
not even begun. And when it does, at no time will prisoners be
working on it. This work will be done by qualified, certified
contractors. I cannot stress this point strongly enough --
prisoners will not be working on the direct installation of the
system.
As far as misplaced blueprints, the Trib went
out of its way to sensationalize what really happened. Within
literally minutes, the blueprints were recovered. And at no time
was the security of the facility comprised.
I have tried my best as Commissioner to be open
and honest with residents and make sure you know the truth about
county government, whether it's good news or not so good. Part
of that responsibility, unfortunately, is spending an inordinate
amount of time refuting the shoddy journalism of the
Tribune-Review. It's one thing that the editorial pages are
always one-sided. It is quite another when the views of
ideological editors, and their publisher, taint what should be
objective reporting.
I expect scrutiny in this election year. In
fact, I will never shy away from talking about what's going on
in the county. But sadly, the largest local paper in this county
is not telling you the whole story, and often is flat out wrong.
The good people of this county deserve better -- you deserve the
truth.
It's unfortunate that we can't rely on this
newspaper to report accurately. So "Trib Watch" will no doubt be
a regular feature on this web site. See Other
