Campaign Funds Used to Promote the Truth
I am not surprised that the Tribune-Review would
criticize Tom Ceraso and I for having raised more money than our
opponents. Given the limited campaign funds our opponents have
managed to raise, I expect this partisan paper to somehow find
fault with our successful efforts.
First, it is important that you understand that
the vast majority of our campaign funds come in small donations
and from a wide variety of sources. I am both proud and grateful
to enjoy such widespread support from both Democrats and
Republicans from all over our county.
So, where was the Tribune-Review's criticism of
Bob Regola when he spent a million dollars (of mostly money from
outside the county) in 2004? And the state senate district does
not even span the entire county. Typical of this newspaper's
inconsistency, it never mentioned it.
I find it very amusing that the paper in its
editorial would warn voters about "spin" and "hype." Funny
because this is what this newspaper does on a daily basis. It
spins half-truths into its own gospel, warps the facts, and
distorts the truth about county government -- all to promote its
own objectives (and candidates).
I promise you this -- we will use our campaign
funds wisely to counter this newspaper's almost daily assault on
Westmoreland County.
