Perfect Arrogance Indeed…From the Trib

You had to know it was coming: a ridiculous, baseless editorial criticizing nearly every aspect of county government and how we manage it. The title itself, "Perfect Arrogance", is a strange choice, given it was written by nameless editors who have spent absolutely no time really studying county government, let alone its challenges or solutions. We've all come to realize that the arrogance comes straight from the Tribune-Review's castle on Cabin Hill.

I have never pretended, nor will I ever, that county government is perfect. Nothing is. What I have been is honest with you, always. I have never shied away from tackling challenges head on, whether they are financial, personnel or procedural.

But while we all understand that nothing is perfect, we also know that county government is working, and it is working well. It is responsive...we have altered policies and procedures to improve efficiency and accountability. It is leaner...we have fewer employees today than when I took office. It is service-oriented...we have improved programs to better serve our constituents. And it is strong financially...we have eliminated waste and streamlined operations.

Westmoreland County government has come a long way, and, of course, there are always challenges ahead. But when confronted with a challenge, this Board of Commissioners has done so prudently and always with the best interests of our residents in mind.

The good people of this county won't be fooled by the arrogance and agenda of this newspaper's editorial writers.
