TRIB WATCH NOVEMBER 7, 2007
A Victory is Ours
I have to admit a certain sense of satisfaction
right now, and not just because we retained a majority on the
Board of Commissioners. The November 6 election in many ways was
also a rejection of the Tribune-Review.
You've seen the examples all year: the biased
Republican coverage, the distortion of the true picture of
county government, Whispers items that demean the entire
election process, etc. Certainly it makes a campaign much more
difficult (and expensive) when you have to spend an inordinate
amount of time refuting the one-sided spin of a newspaper. But,
with your help, we were able to do it. You should be proud!
Finally, here's an important fact regarding this
campaign: The publisher of the Tribune-Review donated $37,500 to
the Republican State Committee this year (and no doubt more
money will show up in the next report), and amazingly Kim Ward
sent a bunch of mailers paid for by this same committee.
Coincidence? Hardly. Remember this the next time you read a
story in the Trib about the new Board of Commissioners. Can we
really expect a newspaper that bought its candidate to
objectively critique her? We know the answer to that.
